Fly Control

Municipalities and Fly Control

As with many public services in our country, the responsibility for public health largely falls on municipalities. Vector control efforts—such as managing mosquitoes, houseflies, and similar pests—require extensive personnel, equipment, vehicles, and chemicals, leading to high costs. A significant portion of municipal budgets is allocated to vector control.

In recent years, climate changes, shifting vector behaviors, and the emergence of new species have made vector control even more expensive and challenging. We know that unexpected rainfall reduces the effectiveness of larvicide applications, increasing both the number of treatments needed and overall larvicide consumption. Similarly, sudden weather changes can cause unexpected spikes in fly activity.

Traditional fight strategies based on trend analyses from past years have often fallen short. In light of these challenges, it has become crucial for municipalities to involve the public in control efforts, sharing the responsibility to reduce the overall burden.

Residents should contribute to mosquito and housefly control by eliminating breeding sites and utilizing natural traps. The most essential step is educating the public about breeding areas and necessary hygiene precautions.

Even if breeding sites are monitored, breaking the reproductive cycle through direct fly control remains critical. Emergency calls requesting fly control often disrupt planned municipal field operations, leading to temporary solutions like chemical spraying.

As a lasting and sustainable solution, the use of natural fly traps has become increasingly popular in recent years. Both single-use and reusable traps have proven effective in controlling fly populations in problematic areas. In parks and gardens, municipal teams have successfully reduced housefly density using single-use traps, eliminating the need for additional chemical treatments in public spaces.

For neighborhoods, villages, and remote residential areas, community involvement is encouraged through the use of reusable traps. In regions with frequent complaints and emergency calls, targeted distribution of reusable traps—along with proper usage training—has led to permanent solutions. When used continuously throughout the season, these traps empower residents to manage fly control independently.

Municipal programs providing traps to residents have fostered positive engagement while improving control effectiveness. Key benefits of this approach include:

  • Enhanced citizen satisfaction and successful public relations.
  • Significant cost savings on chemical treatments.
  • Effective management of resistant fly species.
  • Fewer emergency calls, enabling more structured daily planning and reducing unexpected expenses (vehicles, personnel, overtime, chemicals, etc.).
  • Encouraging long-term fly-free living habits.
  • Promoting an eco-friendly and healthy environment with natural attractants.

Municipalities such as Kocaeli, Antalya, Kırşehir, Uşak, İzmir, Urfa, and several others have reported outstanding success with trap-based fly control programs. Officials have praised the effectiveness of these traps, noting that a single trap can match the impact of an entire work crew. Such feedback motivates us to continue our efforts with enthusiasm.

We are fully prepared to collaborate on natural fly trap solutions, offering technical guidance, training, and sample trials for effective implementation.
